The New York Knicks’ resent resurgence has resulted in major ratings gains on MSG Network.
Wednesday’s Kings/Knicks NBA regular season game earned a 5.78 rating on MSG Network in the New York market, the highest rated Knicks telecast on the network since last February (MIL/NY: 6.75). Ratings peaked at a 7.48 between 9:30 and 9:45 PM ET.
The game was the third-straight to hit a season-high on MSG Network, surpassing Knicks/Raptors the previous night (4.66) and Knicks/Timberwolves on Saturday (4.17).
So far this season, Knicks games have averaged a 2.27 rating on MSG Network, up 69% from the same number of telecasts last season (1.34). Keep in mind the 2011-12 NBA season did not begin until Christmas Day due to the owners’ five-month lockout of players, the fourth work stoppage in NBA history (all owner-imposed lockouts).
The past six games on MSG Network have averaged a 3.79 rating, compared to a 1.81 average for the previous twenty games.
Keep in mind one major caveat. According to the New York Daily News, ratings for Knicks telecasts on MSG Network do not factor in the Time Warner Cable subscribers who are unable to watch the games. MSG Network has not been available for Time Warner Cable subscribers since January 1 due to a dispute between the parties.
