TBS has made some changes on the eve of its Major League Baseball season debut.
Ron Darling, who was added to the TBS MLB team after the Mets tanked last season, will join Chip Caray in a two-man booth for the majority of games this year. Darling, who also works Mets games on SNY, will work through TBS coverage of the American League Championship Series.
TBS also announced the acquisition of Buck Martinez, who will work with Caray on days Darling is not available. Martinez is scheduled to work three of TBS’ first four games, including the network’s debut on April 6. Martinez will be part of TBS MLB Division Series coverage.
The additions of Darling and Martinez seem to indicate that analysts Tony Gwynn and Bob Brenly, who worked with Caray on the top broadcast team during last year’s playoffs, have either not been retained or will be working in new roles this season.
