The unification of Champ Car and the IRL drew record ratings on Saturday night.
The XM Indy 300 drew a 0.8 rating on ESPN2, the highest rating ever for an IndyCar race on the network. The 0.8 marks a 14% increase from the 0.7 rating for the same race last year. The race was also “the most viewed IndyCar Series race on ESPN or ESPN2 in almost three years.”
The improved ratings are a good sign for open wheel racing, which is hoping to reclaim some of its former prominence now that the IRL/Champ Car split has been resolved.
