NASCAR on FOX did well against the competition last weekend.
The Sprint Cup Series Goody’s Cool Orange 500 drew a 5.3 rating on FOX last Sunday, higher than two of the four Elite Eight games. CBS drew ratings of 5.2 and 5.1, respectively, for UCLA/Xavier and Memphis/Texas.
The 5.3 rating is even with the 2007 Goody’s Cool Orange 500, and marks a 4% increase over the 5.1 rating for the NASCAR race that aired opposite the Elite Eight last year
The race was no match for the other two Elite Eight games, which drew ratings of 8.7 (Davidson/Kansas) and 6.7 (UNC/Louisville).
While the performance of Sunday’s race was not particularly surprising, the Craftsman Truck Series pulled an upset when the Kroger 250 outperformed the NBA on ABC. The race drew a 1.5 rating on FOX Saturday, higher than the 1.3 rating for the Rockets/Spurs game on ABC the next day. The 1.5 rating also came close the 1.6 rating for the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on NBC.
