The Thunder-Mavericks and Celtics-Cavaliers NBA playoff series remain no match for last year’s higher-profile matchups.
Monday’s Thunder-Mavericks second round NBA playoff Game 4 averaged 4.34 million viewers across TNT (3.64M) and truTV (700K), down 42% from Warriors-Lakers last year (7.52M), but still the top sportscast of the day. Celtics-Cavaliers led in with 4.09 million (TNT: 3.24M; truTV: 853K), down 10% from Knicks-Heat last year (4.56M), and placing second for the day.
NBA playoff games were averaging 3.53 million viewers through Monday night, down 11% from the same point of last year’s postseason (3.97M).
Shifting to the Stanley Cup playoffs, Hurricanes-Rangers Game 5 averaged 1.83 million on ESPN — up 55% from Golden Knights-Oilers Game 3 last year (1.18M). Stars-Avalanche led out with 1.22 million; there was no comparable window last year.
Stanley Cup playoff games were averaging 1.10 million viewers through Monday, up 11% from last year’s 991,000 through the same number of nights.
On a quiet Monday in sports television, the top event outside of the NBA and NHL playoffs was a Liverpool-Aston Villa English Premier League match at 369,000 across USA Network (315K) and Universo (54K). Primetime Major League Baseball had 161,000 on MLB Network. ESPN Deportes drew 100,000 for an FC Barcelona-Real Sociedad La Liga match.
