- I was wrong about Chris Rose. Rose seemed very amateurish to me in his first several stints as studio host for the BCS. He lacked the “sports gravitas” of a James Brown or a John Saunders. He was too bright and chipper, giving off a morning show feel that didn’t seem appropriate for a highly-charged football broadcast. But starting with the Sugar Bowl, Rose seemed to improve; he still gives off a ‘morning show’ feel, but he has taken more command of his role and seems to be comfortable. Evidently, others agree; there’s a glowing article about him in the L.A. Times.
- Sports media critics were very impressed by Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long on the Sugar Bowl broadcast; the three man booth of Bradshaw, Long and Kenny Albert was good enough to be the number one team for FOX college football coverage.
- FOX could use a permanent third anchor on its studio coverage; next season, the net should consider moving Bradshaw and Long to the number one broadcast team and having Barry Alvarez join Jimmy Johnson and Chris Rose.
- While FOX has used some of its more annoying tactics on BCS coverage (including needless shots of fans in the stands), its coverage of the bowl games has been much more tolerable than its coverage of Major League Baseball. One plus: no advertisements on the field of play.
