One of the leading political journalists in this country, Russert was host of the venerable Meet the Press, the highest rated and perhaps the most important Sunday morning news program. Anyone who has watched NBC News coverage of the recent political primaries has seen Russert nearly every day for the past several months.
Russert was relatively young and arguably the most credible voice on NBC News. His death does not just leave a hole in NBC News, but in all of political journalism. For him to pass away during what should be a stirring election year is almost unfathomable.
