- Sans Tiger Woods, ratings for the AT&T National plummeted over the weekend. Final round coverage drew a 1.5/3 on CBS Sunday afternoon, down a whopping 48% from a 2.9 last year, when Woods participated. Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 1.3/3, down 35%. Overall, CBS averaged a 1.4 overnight for its two-day coverage, off 44% from last year.
- Women’s golf and basketball did not perform well over the weekend, as three of the four sporting events to draw less than a 1.0 overnight were WNBA or LPGA telecasts. ABC drew a 0.6 overnight for Silver Stars/Mystics on Sunday afternoon, while CBS drew overnights of 0.7 and 0.6 for third and final round coverage of the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
- While the WNBA and LPGA did not do particularly well over the weekend, women’s volleyball drew strong ratings. Thanks to having the Nadal/Federer epic as a lead-in, the AVP Tour saw its highest overnight rating in nearly two years. The women’s final of the AVP Boulder Open drew a 1.9/5 on NBC yesterday afternoon, the best rating for an AVP event since the Manhattan Beach Open drew a 2.2/5 overnight in August of ’06.
