Though understandably not as big a draw on a workday as on the weekend, daytime coverage of the 2012 London Olympics scored good numbers on NBC Monday.
Afternoon coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics drew a 6.2 final rating and 9.0 million viewers on NBC from Noon to 5 PM ET Monday. There was no comparable coverage in 2008, when NBC’s weekday telecasts from Beijing aired from 10 AM to 1 PM ET. Compared to similar coverage (12-4:30 PM ET) of the 2004 Athens Olympics (5.0, 6.7M), ratings and viewership increased by 24% and 34%, respectively.
Not surprisingly, Monday’s afternoon window drew significantly lower numbers than afternoon coverage on Saturday (9.3, 14.9M) or Sunday (9.9, 16.0M).
Earlier Monday, coverage from 10 AM to Noon ET drew a 5.1 and 7.0 million viewers — up 6% in ratings and 9% in viewership from the comparable 10 AM-1 PM window in 2008 (4.8, 6.461M). NBC did not air weekday morning coverage in 2004.
Finally, Monday’s late night action earned a 4.6 and 6.4 million viewers, up 18% in ratings and 25% in viewership from 2008 (3.9, 5.130M).
