Charlotte and Raleigh are bringing up the rear when it comes to local Olympic ratings. In other news, the Olympics has also underperformed in New England, and the Tigers earned one of their best ratings ever on FS Detroit.
- Olympics Not So Hot in the Carolinas: Through Tuesday, Charlotte (14.6) and Raleigh-Durham (16.0) rank dead last among the 56 metered markets for primetime coverage of the 2012 London Olympics. Across the state line, Greenville-Spartanburg (SC) is tied for 49th with a 17.5. All three markets trail the national average (18.5). One local exception is Greensboro-High Point (NC), which is tied for 30th with an above-average 19.1. (NBC Universal Media Village)
- London Games Underperforming in New England As Well: New England is also attracting below-average numbers for the Olympics. In particular, Boston ranks 45th with a below-average 18.0 average, Hartford is tied for 49th with a 17.5, and Providence (RI) is tied for 52nd with a 16.8. Other markets in the bottom ten include Buffalo (17.7), Birmingham (17.6), Las Vegas (17.6), Miami (17.0), Tampa (16.8), and Dayton (16.6). (NBC Universal Media Village)
- Tigers Earn Third-Best Rating on FS Detroit: Opposite the Olympics, Tuesday’s Yankees/Tigers Major League Baseball regular season game drew a 14.4 rating on Fox Sports Detroit — the third-highest rating ever for a Tigers telecast on the network. Only Red Sox/Tigers in April (15.3) and Twins/Tigers in 2009 (15.6) earned higher ratings. So far this season, Tigers games have averaged a 9.1 rating on FS Detroit, up 52% from last year (6.0).
