Brett Favre may be gone, but the Green Bay Packers are still a major draw.
Sunday night’s game between the Packers and the equally big time Dallas Cowboys finished with a 13.3/21 final rating and 22.2 million viewers on NBC, up 13% and 17% from an 11.8/19 and 19 million viewers for the comparable Cowboys/Bears game last year.
The 22.2 million viewers is the second most ever for a Sunday Night Football game on NBC, behind the network’s first regular season Sunday night game, Giants/Colts in September of 2006.
Favre’s new team, the New York Jets, also performed well in prime time, at least when it comes to television ratings. The Jets’ blowout loss to the San Diego Chargers drew an 8.9 cable rating and 11.9 million viewers on ESPN Monday night, up 3% and 10% from an 8.6 cable rating and 10.8 million for Titans/Saints last year.
