Overnight ratings increased by double-digits for the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, but remained among the lowest for the event in years.
The 2013 NCAA Tournament Selection Show earned a 4.4 overnight rating on CBS Sunday, up 10% from a 4.0 last year, and even with 2011. Last year’s 4.0 was the lowest for the Selection Show since at least 1989; Sunday’s 4.4 tied the second-lowest mark.
As recently as 2005, the Selection Show drew a much stronger 5.7 overnight.
Despite the relatively low numbers, Sunday marked the first time since 2009 that the Selection Show had an increase in overnights over the previous year, and only the third such occurrence in the past ten years.
In addition, the telecast tied NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage on FOX as the highest rated sporting event of the weekend in the metered markets.
