ESPN scored impressive numbers for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier between the United States and Mexico.
Tuesday’s United States/Mexico World Cup qualifying match earned a 1.6 overnight rating on ESPN. Barring a dramatic drop from the overnights to the final rating, the match will finish as easily the highest rated World Cup qualifier ever on ESPN.
Currently, the record-high is a 0.7 U.S. rating for United States/Jamaica in 1997 and United States/Mexico in 2009.
For some perspective, Tuesday’s match drew a higher overnight on ESPN than the Heat/Magic NBA regular season game the previous night, Miami’s 27th straight victory (1.5). Keep in mind Heat/Magic was blacked out in both Miami and Orlando.
