Continuing a very rough year for the NBA on ESPN Radio, lead analyst Dr. Jack Ramsay will miss the rest of the playoffs due to a medical condition.
Ramsay told the Miami Herald that unspecified medical treatment will keep him from working the remainder of the NBA Playoffs on ESPN Radio. As Ramsay had already planned to end his broadcasting career after this season, it appears likely that he has already worked his final game.
The primary reason Ramsay planned to walk away at the end of this season was the death of play-by-play partner Jim Durham in November. ?Before this season,” he told the Herald, “I did the games mostly with Jim Durham, and then he passed away after the first game this season. I enjoyed working with him, which is why I extended my [stay with ESPN].”
Durham and Ramsay had been the lead broadcast team for the NBA on ESPN Radio, working last year’s NBA Finals together with Hubie Brown. Their final game together was Celtics/Heat on Opening Night in October, just days before Durham died.
According to the Herald, ESPN has not named a replacement for Ramsay on the rest of the NBA Playoffs. Chris Mullin will fill in for him on Friday’s Heat/Bulls Game 3.
