11.0/21: FOX NFL Sunday (4 PM Sunday)
5.6: Football Night in America on NBC (4 PM Saturday)
4.4/11: The NFL Today on CBS (12 PM Sunday)
- FOX: Eagles/Vikings drew the highest overnight rating of any of the four NFL Wild Card games. FOX drew a 19.9/33 overnight rating for the Eagles’ win, up 7% from an 18.6 for Titans/Colts on CBS in the comparable timeslot last year, and the highest overnight for an NFL Wild Card game since Giants/Eagles drew a 20.4 in ’07.
- CBS: Ratings dropped slightly for the early Wild Card game on Sunday. CBS drew a 17.0/35 overnight for Ravens/Dolphins, down less than 1% from a 17.1 for Giants/Buccaneers on FOX in the same timeslot last year.
- NBC: Overnight ratings jumped for NBC’s Wild Card Saturday coverage. The network’s doubleheader featuring Falcons/Cardinals and Colts/Chargers averaged a 16.4/29 overnight rating, up 3% from a 16.0 last year, and the best two-game average for Wild Card Saturday since 2005. The increase in ratings can be attributed entirely to the 18.3 overnight for Colts/Chargers, which was up 10% from last year, and marked the highest overnight rating for a Saturday Wild Card game in five years.
Football (amateur).
12.6: Rose Bowl on NBC, Penn St./USC (5 PM Thursday)
11.6: Fiesta Bowl on FOX, Ohio St./Texas (8 PM Monday)
8.5/14: Sugar Bowl on FOX, Utah/Alabama (8:15 PM Friday)

4.7/11: Cotton Bowl on FOX, Ole Miss/Texas Tech (2 PM Friday)
4.3/8: Gator Bowl on CBS, Nebraska/Clemson (1 PM Thursday)
1.7/4: U.S. Army All-American Bowl on NBC (1 PM Saturday)
- The 12.6 overnight for USC’s win over Penn State in the Rose Bowl was up 5% from a 12.0 for last year’s USC/Illinois tilt, but down 13% from a 14.5 for USC/Michigan in ’07. The 12.6 overnight is the third-lowest for the Rose Bowl this decade.
- Overnight ratings for BCS games on FOX have ranged from embarrasingly low to impressively high. The 6.1 overnight for the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day was the lowest ever for a BCS bowl, while the 11.6 for the Fiesta Bowl on January 5 was the third-highest for a BCS bowl in the past three years.
- Of the non-BCS bowls, the Capital One Bowl is clearly the biggest draw. After last year’s game drew a stellar 9.9 overnight rating, this year’s match-up between Michigan State and Georgia drew a strong 7.2. The 7.2 overnight beat its competition handily, surpassing the 4.3 for the Gator Bowl airing on CBS at the same time by 67%.

- With a lead-in from the NFL Playoffs, CBS drew its highest college basketball rating of the season. The 2.4 for Kentucky/Louisville late Sunday afternoon marks a 4% increase from a 2.3 for comparable regional coverage two years ago, the last time CBS aired a college basketball game following NFL Wild Card coverage.
