- The Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium will play host to a prime time college football match-up on Labor Day Weekend. Oklahoma will begin its 2009 season against BYU at the Cowboys new stadium, in a game that will air in prime time on ESPN or ABC. The game is the first in a five year agreement between ESPN and the Cowboys that will “bring a top college football game to the club?s new stadium each year during the Labor Day holiday weekend.”
- Speaking of the Cowboys’ new stadium, the Dallas Mavericks and the NBA are hoping that the 2010 NBA All Star Game, which will be played at the site, will draw a record crowd. Seating capacity for the game will be 100,000, which would be “the largest attendance in basketball history.” Additionally, there are “plans to open the stadium’s roof before the game” for a military jet flyover.
- Continuing the trend of networks reviving long canceled shows (see Knight Rider), ABC plans to bring back the sports competition program The Superstars. While the original Superstars, which aired on-and-off from the 1970s to as recently as 2002, featured star athletes competing against each other in various athletic events, the new version will feature only one athlete taking on eight celebrities. The show will premiere this summer.
