Local television ratings are still down big for the New York Yankees. In other news, ESPN earned one of its smallest “Sunday Night Baseball” audiences of the season last week, and the NASCAR Nationwide Series had a double-digit drop on ABC.
Yankees TV Ratings Down Nearly 40%
- New York Yankees Major League Baseball games have averaged a 2.53 rating on YES Network so far this season, virtually unchanged from last month, and down 39% from the comparable point last year (4.17). The 2.53 rating is more than a point below last year’s full-season average of 3.92, which was the Yankees’ lowest average since 2003. (New York Daily News)
Giants/Braves Nears “Sunday Night” Season-Low
- Last week’s Giants/Braves “Sunday Night Baseball” game drew almost 1.5 million viewers on ESPN, the network’s third-smallest Sunday night audience of the season. The game aired directly opposite Game 5 of the NBA Finals on ABC. Two of the three least-viewed “SNB” telecasts this season have involved the Braves. (Sun. numbers from The Futon Critic)
Double-Digit Drop For Nationwide Series on ABC
- The NASCAR Nationwide Series Alliance Truck Parts 250 from Michigan earned a 1.3 final rating and just under 1.8 million viewers on ABC last Saturday, down 19% in ratings and 20% in viewership from last year (1.6, 2.2M), and down 13% and 19%, respectively, from 2011 (1.5, 2.2M). The 1.3 rating is the lowest for the race since it aired on ESPN in 2010 (1.2).
