Almost every year, at least one ad is banned from the Super Bowl. This year is no exception.
NBC has rejected an ad from animal rights group PETA, on the grounds that it “depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.” The ad, titled “Veggie Love”, features “lingerie models frolicking amid broccoli and pumpkins with a tagline saying that ‘Studies Show Vegetarians Have Better Sex.’“
NBC says the ad “did not conform with our standards,” and suggested a list of edits that would make the ad appropriate to air. The network suspects that “the ad was deliberately created to be rejected by the network,” likely in an effort to generate publicity.
Meanwhile, NBC has also rejected an ad from CatholicVote.org. The ad, titled “Imagine Spot I”, is an anti-abortion ad “[portraying] President Obama as an unborn child.”
