After Sports Illustrated dropped the bombshell on Saturday, ESPN got the interview on Monday.
ESPN baseball reporter Peter Gammons interviewed MLB star Alex Rodriguez on Monday, days after Sports Illustrated reported that Rodriguez failed a steroids test in 2003. In the interview, Rodriguez admits taking performance enhancing drugs from 2001-2003.
ESPN will air the interview in its entirety during the 6:00 PM edition of SportsCenter.
In the interview, Rodriguez says “I was young, I was stupid, I was na?ve. I wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time.” Rodriguez also addresses his now infamous 2007 interview with Katie Couric, in which he categorically denied taking steroids. Rodriguez: “[A]t the time, I wasn’t being truthful with myself. How could I be truthful with Katie Couric or CBS?”
