A relatively soft World Series ended with strong numbers on Wednesday night.
Game 6 of the Cardinals/Red Sox World Series drew an 11.3 final rating and 19.2 million viewers on FOX Wednesday night, down 11% in ratings and 9% in viewership from Rangers/Cardinals Game 6 in 2011 (12.7, 21.1M), and down 16% and 14%, respectively, from Phillies/Yankees Game 6 in 2009, the most-recent non-clinching Game 6 (13.4, 22.3M).
The game earned an additional 277,000 viewers on Fox Deportes, bringing the overall total to just under 19.5 million.
The Red Sox’ coronation ranks as the highest rated and most-viewed World Series telecast since Rangers/Cardinals Game 7 in 2011 (14.7, 25.4M). Excluding games involving the Yankees, Game 6 ranks as the sixth-highest rated and fifth-most viewed World Series game since the Red Sox won in 2004.
For the year, Game 6 of the World Series earned the fifth-highest rating and viewership of any non-NFL sporting event, trailing only Games 6 and 7 of the Spurs/Heat NBA Finals, and the national championship games of college football and college basketball.
Despite the impressive numbers, Cardinals/Red Sox also ranks as the lowest rated and least-viewed Game 6 in World Series history, falling below the previous marks set by Giants/Angels in 2002 (11.8, 19.2M).
Among adults 18-49, Game 6 drew a 5.7 rating — down 12% from 2011 (6.5) and down 23% from 2009 (7.4), but easily the highest rating of the series in the demo.
