The Boston Red Sox’ season-opening game against the Tampa Bay Rays drew a whopping 17.9 rating on NESN Tuesday, the highest rating ever for a Red Sox opening day game. The 17.9 topped the previous record of 17.6, set for a Red Sox/Yankees game in ’05.
The game was the highest rated television program in the Boston market on Tuesday, even beating ratings powerhouse American Idol.
