On the day the network begins televising live MLB games, MLB Network has announced a major expansion of its schedule.
In addition to 26 Thursday night games, MLB Network will also air 26 games on Saturday nights. The new slate of games begins this Saturday, when the Dodgers take on the Diamondbacks at 8 PM ET.
The Saturday night schedule is a mix of duds (Rockies/Pirates on May 16) and marquee matchups (Mets/Red Sox on May 23). Through May 23, MLB Network will feature 24 of the 30 Major League teams.
Unlike Thursday night games, most of the Saturday games will be simlucasts of local telecasts, using local announcers.
Overall, MLB Network will televise 52 live games during the 2009 season.
