One of the first shows announced by Fox Sports 1 has been given the axe.
Fox Sports 1 “quietly canceled” talk show Crowd Goes Wild last week, SI.com reported Sunday. The show, which was the network’s answer to ESPN’s popular 5 PM ET block of Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption, will come to an end on May 8.
Thanks to the involvement of TV host Regis Philbin, Crowd Goes Wild attracted a decent amount of media hype even before Fox Sports 1 was officially announced last March. The show was originally expected to be a takeoff on The View with Philbin filling the Barbara Walters role, but that never really came to fruition.
Instead, as SI.com noted, the show “never figured it out exactly what it was” (SI.com, 4/27). Philbin, whose contract to appear on the show only ran through the Super Bowl, began making limited appearances in February.
Overall, Crowd Goes Wild will have lasted just eight months. It will be replaced by NASCAR Race Hub.
