Though initial indications were that such a move was unlikely, ESPN has rehired Mark Jackson as its lead NBA game analyst.
ESPN announced Saturday that it has reached a multi-year deal with Jackson to resume his duties as an NBA game analyst. Jackson, who was fired by the Golden State Warriors earlier in the playoffs, will rejoin Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy on ESPN/ABC’s lead NBA broadcast team starting Sunday.
This will be Jackson’s third stint with ESPN/ABC. He originally joined the family of networks in the 2004-05 season, left the following year, and returned for a longer run from 2006-11.
The team of Breen, Van Gundy and Jackson will call their sixth NBA Finals together this year.
After Jackson was fired from Golden State earlier this month, indications were that ESPN would not rehire Jackson for this year’s playoffs. Evidently, however, the situation changed over the past couple of weeks.
