The voice of the NHL on NBC will miss the opening game of the Stanley Cup Final.
Lead NBC NHL voice Mike Emrick will miss Wednesday’s Game 1 of the Rangers/Kings Stanley Cup Final due to a death in the family. Emrick, who has called every Stanley Cup Final game on U.S. TV since 2004, is scheduled to return for Game 2 of the series next Saturday.
Kenny Albert will fill in for Emrick Wednesday night. The rest of the broadcast team remains the same as usual — Eddie Olcyzk on color and Pierre McGuire between the benches.
Albert has had a dramatically increased role on NBC this postseason, replacing Dave Strader on the network’s ‘B’ team and calling the entire Western Conference final.
