The final primetime MLB telecast of the season on FOX was another weak draw in the overnights.
Regional MLB action on FOX earned a 1.6 overnight rating Saturday night, down 30% from last year (2.3) and down 24% from 2012 (2.1). Compared to the network’s eighth telecast of last season — primetime coverage on June 1 — the overnight rating declined 36%.
This year was the third of Baseball Night in America on FOX, a run of eight straight primetime telecasts during the summer. Of the eight primetime windows, only one managed to earn at least a 2.0 overnight. Not surprisingly, that telecast featured the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry.
All eight primetime windows had a decline versus the comparable date last year, including seven with double-digit declines.
Overall, the seven lowest overnights ever for primetime baseball on broadcast television took place this season.
