ESPN will continue airing the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonies through 2020. In other news, CBS will air the annual Notre Dame/Navy game in primetime, and the WNBA Finals will return to broadcast TV this year.
ESPN Agrees to Extension With Pro Football Hall of Fame
- ESPN has agreed to a seven-year media rights extension with the Pro Football Hall of Fame to continue televising the induction ceremonies through 2020. ESPN has televised the event every year since 1995. NFL Network will presumably continue its simulcast of the event. (ESPN Media Zone)
CBS to Air Notre Dame/Navy in Primetime
- CBS announced last week that it will televise this year’s Notre Dame/Navy college football game in primetime November 1. The game will be the nightcap of a tripleheader on the network, with Air Force/Army airing at 11:30 AM ET and the Florida/Georgia SEC rivalry at 3:30 PM. CBS gets the Notre Dame/Navy rivalry every-other-year, usually televising the game in the early afternoon. [The full 2014-15 CFB schedule is available here.] (CBS Sports)
WNBA Finals Gets Rare Exposure on Broadcast TV
- Game 1 of the WNBA Finals will air on ABC Sunday, September 7, marking the first time in four years that any game of the championship series has aired on broadcast television. Since the WNBA moved from NBC to ABC in 2003, a mere three WNBA Finals games have aired on broadcast TV (Game 2 in 2003, Game 3 in 2005 and Game 1 in 2010). (ESPN Media Zone)
