A Saturday night blowout curtailed the momentum for the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Red Wings’ easy win over the Penguins drew a 2.6/5 overnight rating on NBC Saturday night, down 40% from a 4.3/8 for last year’s Game 5, which took place on a Monday night, and up only 4% from a 2.5/4 for Ducks/Senators Game 5 in ’07.
Game 5 helped NBC win a low-rated Saturday night in both total viewers and in the adults 18-49 demo. So far, all three of NBC’s Stanley Cup Final telecasts have helped the network win the night on broadcast.
Overall, NBC is averaging a 2.8 overnight rating for three Stanley Cup Finals telecasts (Games 1, 2 and 5), down 13% from a 3.2 for three games last year (Games 3, 4 and 5).
