The first night of the NHL regular season set multiple records on NBCSN.
Wednesday’s Flyers/Bruins NHL regular season game drew a 0.6 final rating and 956,000 viewers on NBCSN, up a tick in ratings and 2% in viewership from Capitals/Blackhawks last year (0.5, 935K) and tied as the most-watched NHL telecast ever on the network (previously VERSUS and OLN). Only Rangers/Bruins in January 2013 drew as large an audience.
The Bruins’ win also ranks as the most-watched NHL season opener ever on cable (dates back to 1993), topping the previous mark set last year.
The Sharks/Kings nightcap drew a 0.3 and 446,000 viewers, the second-largest audience ever for a late night game (after 9 PM ET) on NBCSN. Last season’s Ducks/Kings outdoor game holds the top spot with a 622,000 viewers.
