Picking up where they left off two years ago, the Giants and Cardinals were not much of a draw on FOX over the weekend.
Game 1 of the Giants/Cardinals National League Championship Series drew a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX and Fox Sports 1 Saturday, down 30% from Tigers/Red Sox last year (5.0) and down 26% from Cardinals/Giants on a Sunday in 2012 (4.7). The traditional FOX telecast drew a 3.4, the lowest overnight ever for a primetime LCS game on broadcast TV.
Only one game of the 2012 Giants/Cardinals series drew a lower overnight — a Wednesday afternoon Game 3 that included a lengthy rain delay (3.1).
Game 2 of the series drew an even lower 2.9 overnight on Fox Sports 1. As one could reasonably expect, the overnight declined 53% from Tigers/Red Sox last year (5.9) and 35% from Cardinals/Giants on a Monday in 2012 (4.3).
Of course, a 2.9 on FS1 looks a great deal better than a 3.4 on FOX, considering the massive gap in television homes between the two networks. Though well below previous years, the 2.9 ranks as the second-highest overnight for any program on FS1 since it rebranded from Speed Channel last year.
