- The entire 2009 NBA Playoffs (78 games) averaged 5.4 million viewers on ABC, ESPN/ESPN2 and TNT, up 11% from 4.9 million viewers last year. In particular, ESPN/ABC averaged 6.3 million viewers for its coverage, up 7% from last year’s 5.9 million, while TNT averaged 4.7 million, up 24% from 3.8 million last year.
- MLB ratings continue to underwhelm on FOX. Regional coverage on Saturday drew a mere 1.5 overnight rating, down 21% from a 1.9 last year. So far this season, at least 6 of the 10 MLB telecasts on FOX have drawn a final rating below 2.0.
- Ratings continue to drop for the IRL on ABC. The IRL Corn Indy 250 drew a 0.8 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, down 27% from a 1.1 for last year’s comparable race. So far this season, three IRL telecasts on ABC have averaged a 1.9 overnight rating on ABC, down 17% from a 2.3 last year. Excluding the Indy 500, ABC has averaged a 0.7 overnight, down 30% from a 1.0 last year.
