- NBC will televise the Andy Murray/Andy Roddick men’s semifinal on Friday, beginning at 12 PM in all time zones. While the match would have aired on tape delay in the Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones regardless, the quick end to the Roger Federer/Tommy Haas match on ESPN2 (ended just after 10 AM ET) means the Murray/Roddick tilt (which began before 11 AM ET) will air on over-an-hour tape delay in the East as well. NBC’s decision to tape delay matches, which has often resulted in hours-old matches airing while live tennis was still taking place, has been one of the bigger stories emerging from Wimbledon.
- FOX, airing Dodgers/Padres as part of its regional coverage on Saturday, will cut into regional coverage of Mets/Phillies and Tigers/Twins to show viewers Manny Ramirez‘ first at-bat of the game. In a statement, FOX Sports president Ed Goren said, “We think many baseball fans will be interested to see how he?s received by the fans in San Diego.”
- Yet another Mike and Mike in the Morning stunt: Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic will host a special 1980’s themed version of their morning show next Tuesday, featuring 80’s-related guests and topics, as well as 80’s-style graphics. Among the guests will be Larry Bird, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Mike Eruzione and Kirk Gibson.
