Yet another near-upset of defending champion Florida State boosted the ACC Championship Game to a record overnight.
The Florida State/Georgia Tech ACC title game drew a 6.9 overnight rating on ABC Saturday night, up 82% from FSU/Duke last year (3.8), up 393% from FSU/Georgia Tech on ESPN in 2012 (1.4), and easily the highest ever for the ACC Championship Game (dates back to 2005).
The previous high was a 5.6 for the inaugural game between FSU and Virginia Tech in 2005.
The 6.9 ranks as the fourth-highest college football overnight of the season on any network — trailing only the Auburn/Alabama Iron Bowl (7.2), the Alabama/Missouri SEC Championship Game (7.7) and Notre Dame/Florida State in October (8.5).
Including a game against Miami in mid-November (6.1), FSU played in three of the season’s six highest rated games in the metered markets. The other three games featured Alabama.
In other action on ABC, the Noon ET Iowa State/TCU game drew a 3.0 overnight — down 42% from Oklahoma State/Oklahoma last year (5.2).
