The NHL’s first All-Star Game in three years returned to slightly lower numbers.
The 2015 NHL All-Star Game drew a 0.9 overnight rating on NBCSN Sunday evening, down a tick from 2012 and 2011 (1.0). The NHL did not hold an All-Star Game last year due to the Olympics, and team owners canceled the 2013 game as part of their lockout of players.
The 0.9 overnight is the highest for a non-playoff NHL telecast on NBCSN since the 2012 All-Star Game. The network’s best-ever regular season overnight was a 0.8 for this year’s Flyers/Bruins season opener.
Due to its sporadic nature — it has not been held in four of the past eleven years — the NHL All-Star Game has been supplanted as the league’s midseason showcase by the Winter Classic. This year’s Blackhawks/Capitals Winter Classic more-than-doubled Sunday’s game with a 2.3 overnight.
The SuperSkills competition on Saturday night had a 0.7. The 2012 overnight was not available.
