- The NFL and NBC have officially announced an extension of their television deal through the 2013 season. NBC will continue airing Sunday Night Football, the NFL season opener, and two NFL Wild Card games. Unlike the NFL’s recent two-year extensions with FOX and CBS, this deal does not give NBC the rights to an additional Super Bowl. The NFL’s television deals with NBC, CBS, FOX and ESPN are each set to expire at the end of the 2013 season.
- The NHL released its 2009-10 national television schedule on Wednesday. Versus will televise 54 games, including an overseas doubleheader featuring games from Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. Meanwhile, NBC will air 10 games, including the January 1 Flyers/Bruins Winter Classic.
- The basketball version of ESPN’s College Gameday will tip off the 2010 season from Storrs, CT, site of a women’s basketball tilt between Connecticut and Notre Dame. This marks the first time College Gameday has taken place from the site of a women’s college basketball game.
