Turner Sports reporter Craig Sager will not work the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
In a statement released by Turner Sports, Sager said that though he feels “great” physically, his doctors have “suggested additional testing” that will require he miss the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Sager was to work Friday and Sunday games from Omaha with Marv Albert, Chris Webber and Len Elmore.
Lewis Johnson, originally assigned to Thursday and Saturday games from Pittsburgh, will replace Sager this weekend. CBS Sports broadcaster Dana Jacobson will replace Johnson on the Pittsburgh telecasts.
Sager only recently returned to the sidelines after a year-long absence due to leukemia, working just one game in the past year. He would have worked four games over twelve hours on Friday.
