The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs will get more primetime exposure on NBC this year.
NBC will televise three primetime NHL playoff games before the Stanley Cup Final, the network announced Wednesday, matching 2013 as the most on the network since it began airing coverage in 2006. Two of the three primetime telecasts will take place during the first round, with the first on April 18 and the second on April 25.
The network will air a third primetime window during the conference finals on May 23.
NBC is giving the NHL more primetime playoff exposure than any major sport outside of the NFL. ABC is scheduled to air just one primetime NBA playoff game prior to the NBA Finals, and FOX aired only one MLB playoff game prior to last year’s World Series.
On cable, NBCSN will air the bulk of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. USA Network will air games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the first two rounds of the playoffs, and CNBC will air coverage on all other days of the week.
