The NHL’s two New York teams have had substantial gains in local TV ratings. In other news, TNT scored a double-digit increase in viewership for Tuesday’s NBA doubleheader, and the World Figure Skating Championships benefited from a move to primetime.
Local Ratings Up Big For Rangers, Islanders
- Through 64 telecasts, New York Rangers NHL regular season games have averaged a 1.61 rating on MSG Network and MSG+ in the New York City market — up 25% from the comparable point last year. The networks have also averaged a 0.60 rating for Islanders coverage, up 70% (76 telecasts). The teams have averaged 156,000 and 60,000 viewers, respectively. (MSG)
Double-Digit Increases For TNT NBA Doubleheader
- Tuesday’s Warriors/Clippers NBA regular season game drew 1.6 million viewers on TNT, up 38% from Blazers/Lakers last year (1.2M) but down 30% from Mavericks/Lakers in 2013 (2.3M). Spurs/Heat earned 1.3 million earlier in the night, up 20% from Rockets/Nets last year (1.1M) but down 51% from Knicks/Heat in 2013 (2.7M). Six of the past ten NBA games on cable have had year-over-year increases. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Move to Primetime Lifts World Figure Skating Championships
- Tape delayed coverage of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships earned a 1.5 final rating and 2.2 million viewers on NBC Saturday night, up 88% in ratings and 71% in viewership from coverage on a Sunday afternoon last year (0.8, 1.3M). The dramatic increases came despite direct competition from the Kentucky/Notre Dame NCAA Tournament game on TBS (8.4, 14.7M). Among adults 18-49, the telecast tied a rerun of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX and a soccer pregame show on UniMás as the lowest rated program of the night on broadcast (0.3).
