TNT’s recent coverage of the French Open was far better and more professionally done than ESPN’s recent coverage of Tennis. Take a look at your hosts: McKendry, Fowler and Johnny Mac need to go.

Although I am no fan of Chris Fowler’s weak understanding of tennis it is Chris McKendry that has no business participating in any aspect of the broadcast of tennis. She doesn’t even announce the scores correctly! Give the coverage back to network television if you want to build a following for tennis. Further, ESPN routinely fails to show the post match on court interviews and award ceremonies because they must switch coverage to another sport.

  Download the ESPN app and log-in using your cable/satellite/streaming credentials, and you should have on-demand access to the match (and every ESPN event for the past month). If you have a streaming video player or a smart TV, you should be able to download the ESPN app there and watch it on your TV. Otherwise, it would be on a computer or mobile device.

What an incredibly SUCKY decision from ABC to not replay the ENTIRE Djokovic/Federer final. I mean, this turned out to be one of the most EPIC finals of all times, and they just decide, meh, we’ll cut it short, to fit in a 3 hours window. And I’m not even speaking of the fact that they didn’t replay the semi-finals (ah, come on!). Absolutely freaking unbelievable.

  None of the networkk tv stations should be allowed anywhere near tennis.
  They are not serious about it.
  
  I recoreded on ESPN and took no chances with them either, since they
  oncde changed staztions to complete a match and all those who had recorded
  to see ater, like me, didn’t get to see the end – so I also recorded on Tennis Channel.

WHY GIVE CONSTANT UPDATES AND SCORES ON BOTH STATIONS
WHEN RECORDING ON TWO STATIONS – AND LOSE FANS/VIEWERS?
I record both stations when ESPN and ESPN2 show many matches on two stations.
But both stations kept giving scores and the progress of matches on the other station,
so I found I could not relax and had to view with my finger on the mute and ready to stop.
It didn’t always work and I found out who won a match I was going to enjoy later on the
other station. So I didn’t watch the matches at all when I knew the results.
This is a good way to lose fans, ESPN and ESPN2. And maybe advertisers
if ratings are lower than they might have been.

Is it really necessary to keep giving updates? There must be many people like me
who record to view later in the day or evening, on their tv’s rather than phones.

I hate to see all the negative comments. I love John McEnroe even though I’d sometimes get aggravated back in the day about some of his antics. I would prefer to see the top players like Williams, Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, etc. play instead of some of the lesser American players. I would love to see them later but not at the expense of seeing the entire matches of the very top players.

I do not care to see warmups if they are cutting out my ability to watch a match. I don’t necessarily care for all the commentaries. I don’t care what they think. Also some of the interviews with for example Nadal where they went on and on asking him questions about Coco Gauff was absolutely terrible. One or two quick questions maybe, but how disrespectful of Nadal’s time and talent to ask him all those in depth questions. I will say he was very gracious to sit through all of that and more patient than I would have been in his place.

Please, please get rid of Chris Fowler(?). He talks too much, and really does not know the game! He gets on my nerves, and on others who really love and know the game. I am a former college coach, and know whereof I speak. Chris Evert is very kind to him. I don’t know how she stands it!

Thoughts on tv coverage from a serious tennis fan.

Paul Annacone is the best Tennis Commentator.. He is respectful and does not chatter on once play has started. And he knows.

In general, the Tennis Channel commentators are better. I do not have to hit the mute button, unless the worst commentator is on – Ted Robinson. Even Mary Carrillo is better when on the Tennis Channel.

I often have to mute John McEnroe. He gets bored easily and is disrespectful, often, talking on and on about anecdotes I do not want to hear. Even sometimes at a crucial break point. John McEnroe with Mary Carrillo are a combo to be avoided in ESPN and the tv networks. . Add Ted Robinson and I run or wait to watch Tennis Channel.

Commentators and those at the desk on both ESPN and Tennis spend too much time chatting. Better to show the Tennis! Often they tell how great a match is but just show match point.

There are too many commentstors in ESPN.which leads to too much…. talking.

No I do not want to pay to stream or watch on my phone or computer.

As a serious tennis fan, I do NOT want to watch inferior American players because they are American when a much better MATCH is being played at the same time.

The tv networks – ABC NBC CBS – are not serious. Or professional when it comes to tennis. They do not allow enough time. And they have McEnroe talking talking talking. Often with Carrillo.

I fast forward a lot!!

And who cares about all those stats? Really.

The clay season is a wash out. Most of the time, I can’t see the ball. So I don’t watch it much. Can’t the channels improve the camerawork, the lighting? Why bother with the clay season unless we can all see the ball?

Split screens are annoying in the extreme. Can’t see the ball. Who cares if one of the games or both are not up to the minute Live. Really.

In my opinion, the worst male commentator is Chris Fowler! He talks constantly and unnecessarily, even while the ball is in play. He seems to be a nice guy, and well liked but he talks too much for tennis! My wonderful mute button gets a workout when he’s commentating. Martina is another one, always with her opinion about what the player should have done or has done wrong, but she’s not alone. Drives me nuts. Love the “M Brothers.” I read back three years of comments listed here and most want less chatter (are the exes listening?). You don’t have to fill every second with facts, questions, and opinions. We don’t care how many times they pick their nose during the previous set, or which tp they prefer…you are killing the game with all the trivia. How many years and complaints will it take to make tennis more enjoyable for the viewer? The wheel has already been invented. Simple is better.

  Fowler has no right to be announcing tennis. It’s a sad comment on ESPN. Anyone who understands tennis realizes Fowler is so inept he ruins listening to the matches.

How can I watch the women’s finals on the west coast (pacific time)? I’m having a finals watching get together, but 5am is too early and it’s not clear when replays might be available. How do we find replay times?

instead of commenting about the announcers who I find all wonderful how about a comment on the screaming tennis players like Sharapova and Halep I have to mute the sound when these two are playing I also thought that was going to be stopped in 2018 but apparently not

I agree with the comments here about the commentary of John McEnroe and Mary carillo in that they talk way too much, even during play. Carillo’s comments are often trivial and silly, and after alllll these years, she still doesn’t seem to have a good grasp of the game. She calls players guys and sometimes sounds disrespectful of them. McEnroe talks about himself ad nauseam when he played, about the time of the dinosaurs. He is so boring and his voice so monotonous, it was made for the mute button.

Wish we could get rid of him. Patrick is good, as is Cahill, but the rest are well past their sell by dates and should find another line of work.

  I really like McEnroe. I think his commentary is meaningful. But Mary Carillo — give me a break. After all these years she still drives me crazy. And if Nadal is playing and she is commenting, well, to her, he is just the greatest thing on earth, blah, blah, blah. I can’t stand her.
