The Capitals/Rangers generated its first increase in viewership on Friday.
Game 5 of the Capitals/Rangers NHL playoff series drew 1.4 million viewers on NBCSN Friday night, up 10% from Rangers/Penguins last year (1.2M) and up 4% from Penguins/Senators in 2013 (1.3M).
Friday’s game was the first of the series to have a year-over-year increase in viewership. Final numbers were not available for Sunday’s Game 6, which had a 1.5 overnight — up 7% from last year.
In the nightcap, Game 4 of the Ducks/Flames series drew 832,000 viewers — down 52% from Blackhawks/Wild last year (1.7M). There was no comparable game in 2013. The first four games of the series each failed to earn even 900,000 viewers.
Keep in mind both of last year’s comparable games faced direct competition from the NFL Draft.
