ESPN hit multiple viewership milestones for the Women’s College World Series.
The bracket round of the Women’s College World Series, which ran Thursday to Sunday, averaged 1.1 million viewers on ESPN (12 telecasts) — the second-highest average since ESPN began airing coverage in 1997. Only in 2011 did the round average more viewers (1.11M to 1.06M).
ESPN earned its two largest bracket round audiences ever over the weekend, scoring 2.0 million for LSU/Michigan on Sunday and 1.6 million for UCLA/Auburn on Saturday. The former ranks as the third-most watched WCWS game of any kind.
The gains continued into the start of the final series. Game 1 of the Florida/Michigan final earned 1.5 million viewers on ESPN2 Monday night, up 37% from Florida/Alabama last year (1.1M) and up 25% from Oklahoma/Tennessee in 2013 (1.2M).
