NBCSN scored a slight increase in viewership for IndyCar from Texas. In other news, Sunday Night Baseball struggled opposite the NBA Finals, and the WNBA got off to a slow start on NBA TV.
Slight Bump For IndyCar From Texas
- IndyCar Series racing from Texas scored 431,000 viewers on NBCSN Saturday night, up 2% from last year (424K) and the largest audience of the season on cable (four telecasts). Compared to 2013, when the race aired on broadcast network ABC, viewership dropped 69% from 1.4 million. (via Sports TV Ratings)
Sunday Night Baseball Low Opposite NBA
- The Cardinals/Dodgers Sunday Night Baseball game drew 1.4 million viewers on ESPN, down 16% from Pirates/Dodgers last year (1.7M) and down 39% from Red Sox/Yankees in 2013 (2.3M). The Cardinals’ win, which faced hefty competition from Game 2 of the NBA Finals (19.2M), earned the second-smallest Sunday night audience of the season. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
NBA TV Sees Gain For WNBA Opening Week, But Still Low
- NBA TV had 67,000 viewers for the Sparks/Storm WNBA game Saturday night, the first national telecast of the season — up 26% compared to the network’s opening week coverage last year (two telecasts). Though up from last year, the game was not much of a draw. It drew the same audience as a 3 AM re-air of the Texas A&M/TCU college baseball game on ESPN.
