The Hartford Open was just the latest PGA Tour event to hit a multi-year high in the ratings.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Hartford Open drew a 2.0 final rating and 3.0 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 122% in ratings and 124% in viewership from last year (0.9, 1.3M), and the tournament’s highest final round rating since 2005 (2.2). The previous high over that span was a 1.9 in 2013.
The multi-year high was the seventh in the past 16 weeks for final round PGA Tour coverage, joining the Memorial (highest since 2012), Colonial (highest since 2006), Quail Hollow (T-highest since 2012), Heritage (highest since 2006), Houston Open (highest since 2005) and Tampa Bay Championship (highest ever).
In addition, the year-over-year increases were the highest of the season for a final round telecast — with the caveat that last year’s 0.9 rating was the lowest since at least 1998. Twelve of the past 16 final round telecasts (including majors and WGC events) have had an increase in ratings, with 11 of those up by double-digits.
Ratings and viewership were not immediately available for Saturday’s third round coverage.
