U.S. Senior Open Flat on Saturday, Down on Sunday
- Final round coverage of the U.S. Senior Open drew a 0.6 final rating and 832,000 viewers on FOX Sunday afternoon, down a tick in ratings and 17% in viewership from last year opposite the World Cup final (0.7, 1.0M) and down 25% and 27%, respectively, from 2013 (0.8, 1.1M). Those telecasts aired in mid-July on NBC. The 0.6 rating is tied with 2008 and 2011 as the lowest for final round coverage since at least 1997. Saturday’s third round action drew a 0.5 and 726,000 — flat in ratings and up 3% in viewership from last year (0.5, 707K) and down a tick and 9%, respectively, from 2013 (0.6, 796K). (Nielsen)
Yankees/Angels Second-Best Wednesday Game of Season
- The Yankees/Angels Wednesday Night Baseball game drew 682,000 viewers on ESPN, the second-largest Wednesday night audience of the season. Only Cardinals/Nationals in April earned a larger audience (683K). It was also the most-watched weeknight MLB game on ESPN or ESPN2 in exactly one month — since Brewers/Cardinals on June 1 (859K). Big Jump For Breeders Cup at Santa Anita
- The Gold Cup at Santa Anita, part of the Breeders Cup Challenge horse racing series, drew a 0.2 final rating and 246,000 viewers on NBCSN last Saturday — up 81% in viewership from the same race last year (136K). Ratings and viewership also increased by a tick and 85%, respectively, from the network’s first Breeders Cup Challenge telecast from Churchill Downs two weeks earlier (0.1, 133K).
