Even though Tiger Woods fell out of contention, overnight ratings hit a three-year high for the PGA Tour National.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour National earned a 2.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 39% from last year (1.8), up 56% from 2013 (1.6), and the event’s highest final round overnight in three years — since Tiger Woods last won in 2012 (4.6).
The 2.5 is the fourth-highest for final round coverage of the event (nine telecasts), trailing Woods’ wins in 2012 and 2009 (4.6) and the inaugural edition in 2007 (2.9).
Woods entered the weekend in contention for his first win of the season, but dropped into a tie for 42nd after Saturday. He finished in 18th place.
Including majors and WGC events, the National was the 13th PGA Tour tournament this season to hit a multi-year high in final round overnights. Overall, 16 of the past 21 final round telecasts have had an increase over last year.
Third round action on Saturday drew a 2.1 overnight — up 75% from last year (1.2), up 91% from 2013 (1.1) and the highest since 2012 (2.2).
