While the real test for U.S. Open ratings will not come until the weekend, the early rounds have gotten off to a good start on ESPN and ESPN2.
Evening and primetime coverage of the U.S. Open earned a 0.6 final rating and 912,000 viewers on ESPN2 Monday night, up 100% in ratings and 94% in viewership from the comparable period last year (0.3, 470K). Coverage averaged 962,000 viewers from the start of the night session at 7 PM ET, which included Serena Williams‘ opening match.
Earlier in the day, ESPN drew a 0.5 and 680,000 for daytime coverage — up a tick and 60%, respectively, from last year’s 0.4 and 426,000.
Tuesday’s night session drew 926,000 on ESPN, up 1% from last year (918K) and up a third from 2013 on ESPN2 (699K). The network’s daytime coverage had 651,000; last year’s comparable numbers were not immediately available.
