A primetime slot gave NBC its best Notre Dame opener in nearly a decade.
The Texas/Notre Dame college football game drew a 2.6 overnight rating on NBC Saturday night, up 86% from Notre Dame’s opener against Rice last year (1.4) and up 63% from their opener against Temple in 2013 (1.6), both of which took place in the afternoon.
The 2.6 overnight is the highest for a Notre Dame home opener since 2008, when a week two matchup with San Diego State drew a 2.7. It is also tied as the third-highest for a primetime Notre Dame game on NBC since the network began carrying them in 2009 (11 telecasts), trailing only games against Michigan in 2012 (4.0) and last year (3.0).
Austin was the top market for Saturday’s telecast with a 15.7 rating, followed by San Antonio (6.5), Indianapolis (6.15) and Oklahoma City (6.1). Dallas-Ft. Worth and Ft. Myers, FL rounded out the top five with a 5.2.
