Embattled golf star Tiger Woods will not participate in this week’s Chevron World Challenge.
In a statement on his website, Woods cited the injuries he sustained his car accident last week as the reason he would not participate in the tournament. Woods: “I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week. … I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I’m very sorry that I can’t be there.”
This will be the second straight year that Woods will be unable to participate in the tournament.
Last year, final round coverage of the event drew a 1.4 overnight rating (final ratings were unavailable). In ’07, when Woods last won the event, final round coverage drew a 1.9 final rating.
The tournament drew its highest rating in ’00, when final round coverage drew a 3.7 final rating.
