While not as big of a draw as the Florida St./Florida rivalry, Friday’s Alabama/Auburn game drew impressive numbers on CBS.
Alabama/Auburn drew a 4.8 overnight rating on CBS Friday, up 92% from LSU/Arkansas last year (2.5), but down 6% from Arkansas/LSU in ’07 (5.1).
The 4.8 overnight is the third-highest of the season for a college football game on CBS, behind only the Florida St./Florida on Saturday (5.1) and a primetime Florida/LSU game in October (6.8).
ABC drew substantially less impressive numbers for its Black Friday doubleheader. Illinois/Cincinnati drew a 2.5 overnight rating, down 7% from West Virginia/Pittsburgh last year (2.7), and down 22% from Nebraska/Colorado in ’07 (3.2).
The numbers were even worse later in the day. Nebraska/Colorado drew a mere 1.9 overnight rating, down 35% from the same matchup last year (2.9) and down 41% from Texas/Texas A&M in ’07 (3.2).
The 1.9 overnight is the lowest of the season for any college football game on ABC.
