ESPN has decided to continue using an ombudsman. In other news, Donovan McNabb has been sentenced to jail time, and a former ESPN executive has died.
Ombudsman Hired
- ESPN has hired former Washington Post editor Jim Brady as its new ombudsman, it was announced Friday. The role, which is being renamed “public editor,” was last occupied by Robert Lipsyte from 2013-14. Brady is the sixth person or group to serve in the role since it was established in 2005, though it is arguable that none have had any effect on the network’s public image or perceived accountability. Former ESPN Exec Passes Away
- Former ESPN executive and SEC consultant Chuck Gerber passed away Friday at age 71. Gerber worked for ESPN for 15 years until 2008, serving most recently as executive vice president of college sports. He left for the aforementioned SEC position. (ESPN.com)
